Gen. Iyare, Akpieye confirm supremacy, win Orodje of Okpe Golf Tourney

It was another standing ovation as General Oscar Iyare (rtd) and Lady Captain, Lucky Akpieye confirmed their supremacy at the 4th Orodje of Okpe Golf Tournament concluded over the weekend at the golf course, Sapele Athletic Club (SAC), Delta State.

Exactly a week to the Orodje tournament, both Gen. Iyare from Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) and Akpieye, lady captain, Sapele Athletic Club (SAC) Golf Section won the Okakuro Peter Asagba, Captains Day Golf Tournament which served as a prelude to the Orodje tournament.

The two days tournament was sponsored by Seplat Energy as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to the Sapele community and to commemorate the 15th Coronation Anniversary of Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Major General Felix Mujakperuo (rtd), an avid golfer, and the Grand Patron of the club.

The veteran General, Iyare played a net score of 69 to beat Sunday Okukere from Ogunnu Golf Resort, Warri on count-back in the men’s category while A. Yusuf from Arsenal Golf Club, Owerri placed third with 70 net.

Akpieye on the other hand in the ladies category recorded a straight victory with 69 net. Former Lady Captain, UBTH Golf Club, Sandra Emina placed second having beat Biodun Hassan from Ikeja Golf Club on count-back as they both played 72 net respectively.

Julius Okojie from SAC and S. T. Ebunilo from UBTH won the best gross award with 73 gross and 92 gross played respectively. Also, Augustine Odigie from SAC won the men’s longest drive while Biodun Hassan won the ladies cadre. O. Elijah and Ebunilo won nearest the pin.

Similarly, B. Okome from Warri with 70 net beat Nick Mbanu from Enugu Golf Club (74 net) to lift the veterans men trophy. Amos Edoriagba from SAC beat his compatriot, Chief E. O. Egigba to win the super veteran men’s trophy just as Mrs M. Obagwo won the veteran ladies with 84 net

In his address, HRM Felix Mujakperuo accompanied by his Chiefs to the club for the presentation of awards to winners thanked the management of Seplat Energy for bankrollimg the tournament that has placed Sapele town on the global map

The monarch hereby promised to protect the interest of the club and the whole of Sapele too, adding that the game of golf has added value to Sapele town more than ever before.

Meanwhile, golfers from Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba; Ogunnu Golf Resort, Warri; Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS); UBTH Golf Club, Benin City. Arsenal Golf Club, Owerri, Imo State; IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja; Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos and many others played at the event.
