Former Kwara governor dies at 84

Former Kwara State Governor, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, has passed away at the age of 84.

His death was announced by the family in a statement signed by his son, Cornelius Oluwasegun Adebayo.

The statement reads:
“With deep sorrow but heartfelt gratitude to God, we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo.

“Born on February 24, 1941, he passed away in the early hours of June 25. He served in various capacities throughout his lifetime — as a lecturer at the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), a Senator during the Second Republic, Governor of Kwara State, and later as Minister of Communications and Transportation from 2003 to 2007.

“He was a committed public servant who served his nation with honour and integrity.

“Details regarding the funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.”
