Five Security Officers Detained Over Abuja Airport Breach, Handed to ICPC

Five security personnel have been arrested and are set to face prosecution following their alleged involvement in a security breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on February 12, 2026.

The arrests followed a joint investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Federal Ministry of Aviation.

Those detained include a police officer, Ayuba Yakubu (ASP); a DSS operative, Murtala Inuwa; an immigration officer, Najeeb Murtala (ASI); and two Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel, Musa Adamu and Salihu Victor.

According to authorities, the officers allegedly accepted bribes to facilitate unauthorised access into restricted areas of the airport and obstruct lawful security operations. Investigators described the incident as an “unprecedented” compromise of airport security protocols.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution.

Meanwhile, officials of the NIS and NCS found to have abused their positions without direct evidence of bribery will face administrative sanctions, according to the statement.

The development comes amid heightened concerns over security at critical national infrastructure, particularly Nigeria’s major international gateways.
