Fire Breaks Out After Blast At Ogun Military Facility

The Nigerian Army has confirmed a minor explosion followed by a fire at the Ilese Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Army spokesperson Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele disclosed that the incident involved a small explosion within a storage facility belonging to the 42 Engineers Brigade’s Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron, which led to a contained fire outbreak.

According to Anele, there were no casualties or injuries reported. The situation was swiftly brought under control by personnel from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, assisted by the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service. The damage was limited to the building where the explosion occurred and to some stored items.

Anele noted that a full assessment is currently being carried out to evaluate the extent of the material loss.

She called on residents of Ilese and surrounding communities to remain calm, assuring them that normal activities can safely continue.

“The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with relevant authorities, has launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident to prevent future occurrences,” Anele stated.

She reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding its personnel and ensuring the safety of nearby communities.
