FGShuts 41 Unity Schools in Northern Nigeria over rising insecurity

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate shutdown of 41 Federal Government Colleges (unity schools) across northern Nigeria following heightened security concerns.

The directive was contained in a circular signed by Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa. Addressed to the principals of the affected institutions, the memo stated that the closure was a preventive measure aimed at safeguarding students and staff amid recent violent attacks.

“Given the current security challenges in parts of the country and the urgent need to avert any breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges,” the circular read, instructing school heads to comply fully.

This decision comes in response to a wave of bandit incursions on schools in the North, which has resulted in the abduction of students and personnel.
