FG urges the use of FOI act to Expose corruption

The federal government wants Nigerians to explore the provisions of the freedom of information act to promote transparency and accountability in government.

The permanent secretary, Ministry of Information and Culture, Grace Isu Gekpe stated this in a message to the stakeholders engagement on evaluating the application of the Freedom of Information Act and it’s impact on national development in Abuja.

Represented by a director in the ministry, Mr. Atanda Kolawole, Gekpe explained that when finally implemented, the country will witness more economic growth and development as many public officers will be put on their toes.

She called on Nigerians to beem their searchlight on Government institutions to rid the country of corruption and corrupt practices.

Similarly, the Director-General, National Orientation Agency, NOA Dr Garba Abari explained that the stakeholders engagement program became imperative to enlighten Nigerians on the provisions of the ACT to enable them make public officers accountable to the people.

Dr. Abari maintained that the NOA has translated the ACT into the country’s three major languages and twenty-four other languages to make it easy for Nigerians to understand.

He added that the agency through its offices at the grassroots has began mobilizing officers to ensure the message gets to Nigerians across the country.
