FG Condemns Use of Incorrect Appellation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The Federal Government has expressed concern over what it described as the repeated misuse of President Bola Tinubu’s official title by some organisations and media outlets, urging stricter adherence to the correct appellation.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made this known on Friday in Abuja through a statement issued by his media aide, Yomi Odunuga.

According to Akume, the clarification followed an error noticed in the naming and appellation of the president in a publication by a national newspaper on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.

“For the record, the correct and official appellation is His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akume stated.

He appealed to members of the public and media organisations to always confirm official titles before publication in order to prevent what he called avoidable and embarrassing mistakes from appearing in print and online reports.

Akume added that such verifications could be made through the office’s official communication channels on Facebook, Instagram, X, as well as via email.
