Exclusive: Fayemi to borrow N5b on Ekiti election

Ekiti is doomed if the information circulating the media space is true. Reliable information from the office of the Accountant General of the State has it that the John Kayode Fayemi led administration has concluded plans on how to borrow the sum of five billion naira (#5,000,000,000) to execute the June 18 Gubernatorial election in the state.

The plan to plug Ekiti into further debt is as a result of the uncertainty in the presidential bid of Dr John Kayode Fayemi after it was clear that he cannot win the presidential ticket of the APC as their flag bearer in the 2023 Presidential election.

A reliable source confirmed that individuals at the meeting were it was concluded on the planned borrowing were the state party flag bear Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, Mr Tolu Ibitola the incumbent Chief of Staff, the Accountant General of the State and Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, the Deputy Governor of the state.

While the meeting was secretly held in Ado-Ekiti, the house of the current Deputy Governor, the meeting lasted less than 30minutes where Dr John Kayode Fayemi was said to have been called for approval. This Dr John Kayode Fayemi consented without hesitations as he directed that every measures should be taken towards ensuring victory in the upcoming governorship election.

Dr John Kayode Fayemi in his brief phone call with the Deputy Governor stressed the fact that Ekiti is their only chance of sustaining relevance within the political circle and any attempted attempt not to hold Ekiti will compound their woes.

Information from a close source revealed that the orchestrated plan of borrowing will be through financial institutions. The plan is to hide under the disguise of salary payment of civil servants and pensioners in the state. Also, three financial institutions (Zenith Bank, United Bank of Africa and Wema Bank) will be approached before the middle of the week to seek for a soft loan with a promise to repay the loan in 24months.

In the meeting, it was proposed that Two Billion (#2,000,000,000) from Zenith Bank while both United Bank of Africa and Wema Bank r?will provide one billion five hundred million naira (#1,500,000,000) respectively.
