Ex-Presidential Candidate Pleads Over Kwara Attacks
A call on the government to take decisive action to address the security challenges in KWARA state by Amb Prof Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies
Ex-Presidential Candidate, Amb. Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, the Peace Consul of United-Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC), is pleading with the government over some ongoing viral videos that, “Kwara State of Nigeria is indeed facing a severe security crisis, with residents of Oke-Ode, Bankole, and Babanla in Ifelodun Local Government Area fleeing their homes due to bandit attacks.” “The situation is dire, with reports of kidnappings, killings, and widespread destruction and indeed needs urgent attention and intervention.” She added.
The Crisis in Numbers:
- Over 3,000 residents have fled Babanla and 15 surrounding communities.
- More than 1,000 cows were rustled from the Fulani settlement near Bankole village.
- Five people, including a police officer, were killed in the Babanla attack.
- Several others were kidnapped, with some reports indicating that a lady and a little girl were among the abductees.
Reactions on State Government Response:
The Kwara State government has been criticized for its slow response to the crisis, with many residents calling for urgent intervention to restore peace and security. The government has been accused of being reactive rather than proactive in addressing the security challenges.
Residents’ Plea:
Residents are pleading with the government to take immediate action to rescue the kidnapped victims and bring the perpetrators to justice. They are also calling for increased security presence in the area to prevent further attacks from these non-kwaran Fulani bandits and terrorists.
Call to Action:
Amb Prof Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies’ an indigene of Kwara state calls and pleads with both the state and federal government to urgently intervene in the crisis in a timely way, considering the severity of the situation.
The state and federal government both need to take decisive action in addressing the security challenges and provide support to the affected communities. This includes deploying adequate security personnel, providing humanitarian assistance to displaced persons, and working to dismantle the bandits and terrorist networks operating in the area as a matter of urgency.
Let us all continue to pray for peace and calmness in Kwara state, North Central, Nigeria by the special grace of God.
