Environmental Offenders Face Police Arrest, Prosecution In Ogun

Ogun State Government efforts at leveling the curve of coronavirus as well as to promote public hygiene has received the backing of the Nigeria Police, Ogun Command having confirmed its readiness to prosecute environmental offenders across the state.
In a statement by Rotimi Oduniyi, Press Officer, Ogun State Ministry of Environment on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, (CP) Kenneth Ebrimson stated this when he received the management of the newly established Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) in his office at the Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
CP Ebrimson said Nigeria Police as first responder in the fight against the spread of Covid-19 have discovered that poor hygiene and other environmental infractions are major contributors to the spread of the pandemic.
He said: “Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command is willing stem this tide by cooperating with the state waste management authority OGWAMA by arresting and prosecuting environmental offenders so that we would have a better, safe and Covid reduced environment.”
CP Ebrimson therefore counselled those living in the state to imbibe public hygiene protocols by proper disposal of their waste through OGWAMA laid guidelines to avoid running foul of the state environmental laws.
Earlier, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Head of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, Mr Ola Oresanya thanked the command for its readiness to enforce the state environmental laws which will enhance its operation.
He hereby called on the Traffic Control Unit to help train its drivers and sweepers on their safety while performing their duties on the highways.
He also pledged to partner the state command in its efforts at cleaning all stations, area commands, divisional offices and barracks of all wastes for effective service delivery.
