Ekiti local govt worker sentenced to life imprisonment for raping 15-year-old girl

A local government employee with Ekiti State, Ojo Ayodele, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl.

Ayodele was accused of abducting the teenager in Ijero-Ekiti and taking her to a secret location in the town where he allegedly subjected her to continuous sexual assault for 21 days.

Testifying before the State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, on Wednesday, the State Director of Public Prosecution, Gbemiga Adaramola, told the court that the victim, who was staying with step mother after her parents divorced, had to leave due to alleged maltreatment.

The convict was arraigned on February 2, 2016, on a two-count of rape and abduction.

Adaramola narrated that after the victim left her step mother’s residence, the 15-year-ld met Ayodele, “who promised to take care of her.”

The State Director of Public Prosecution told the court that a good Samaritan had seen blood stains on the victim’s cloth and took her to Ijero local government immigration office where the case was first reported.

Against this backdrop, Ayodele was subsequently arrested by immigration officers after which the matter was reported at Ijero police station.

The prosecution presented seven witnesses during the trial and exhibits which included statements of the victim and the convict as well as a medical report which established the rape.

Presideing judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde, after listening to counsels in the trial, found Ayodele guilty of rape and abduction.

Abodunde, consequently sentenced Ayodele to life imprisonment.
