Edo police command arrest 110 suspects in three weeks

The Edo State Police command has recorded a laudable and modest achievement in its fight against crime and other social vices across the state just as a total of one hundred and ten suspects have been arrested by the command.

These arrests were made possible within three weeks assumption of the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo as the top echelon officer at the force headquarters in Benin City.

Mr. Kokumo disclosed this during media chat on Thursday at the command headquarters, Benin City while the suspects paraded as he used the forum to highlight on these remarkable achievements recorded in the command within the shortest period of assumption in the State.

While giving the breakdown, CP Kokumo confirmed that twenty nine armed robbers, twenty kidnappers and fifty five cultists were arrested at various locations across the state. Also, he revealed that six persons were arrested for illegal refinery at Agbede-Egomu River at Auchi, including their motorcycles used to perpetrate the acts.

“I wish to inform the public about the activities in the command in the last three weeks, we have made some modest achievements in the fight against crime and criminality, some of these achievements are arrest of three suspects in connection with the murder of Prof. Otasuwe, a University of Benin lecturer.

“We equally in recent terms discovered illegal refinery in Auchi area, a serious crime on economic sabotage where criminally minded individuals were illegally refining petroleum product in a crude manner to unsuspecting motorists. Six arrests were made as well as
recovering of motorcycles they used for their activities.

“The command also as part of its achievements effects the arrest of three persons in the kidnapping of one Henrietta and Victor at Ologbo area, these are young men. Their area of specialization is to kidnap people on the road and take their victims to the bush where they will then demand for ransom. Various arms ammunitions were recovered from them and money too.”

Furthermore, “The command have been able to effect the arrest of 29 armed robbers, 20 kidnappers, 55 cultists, recovered five AK riffle, two pump action guns, 33 cut to size gun, one riot gunner, 237 live cartridges, 90 AK 47 live ammunitions, 10 exotic vehicles were recovered from the bad boys, assorted phone sets, cutlasses, toy gun.

Total sum of one million two hundred and sixty thousand three hundred and fifty naira recovered from the criminals. These off course are proceeds from the crime.”

He hereby solicit for the adequate cooperation and assistance from other agencies as well as the people of Edo State in order to achieve a crime free environment.
