Edo Correspondents Chapel Elections hold on Friday
After months of hostilities that rocked the leadership of Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, the new executives will be elected into various offices on Friday.
Following the recent dissolution of the dual chapel executives by the Congress as a result of months of crisis, the elections was mandated by the state Chairman of the Union, Comrade Roland Osakue to hold this Friday.
However, the Elections Screening Committee led by Kevin Okunzuwa, after days of carrying out the mandate hereby cleared those who have shown interest to contest for various positions that include chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, asst secretary, treasurer, financial secretary, and internal auditor.
Meanwhile, indications are that NAN correspondent, Mrs Nefisetu Yakubu is on the verge of being returned unopposed as the Chairman of the chapel, being the only aspirant standing after the expiration of the time allowed for the collection of nomination forms.
The same goes for the aspirants for the offices of vice chairman, Jethro Ibileke of the News magazine; Iguobaro Osaigbovo of People’s Daily and Idris Umar Momoh of Business Day, contesting for the position of secretary and financial secretary respectively. Vanguard cameraman, Uzosike Barnabas is also vying for the treasurer position.
Moreover, all the accredited correspondents in the state from national dailies and broadcast stations will participate in the polls.
The list includes correspondents for the Raypower FM, News Agency of Nigeria, Daily Times, Nigerian Pilot, This Day, Guardian, Blueprint, Peoples Daily, Vanguard and Leadership.
Others are Business Day, Daily Trust, Daily Sun, The Nation, National Trail, The Point, City People, Tell, Source and News Magazines, the Niche, Authority amongst others.
