Edo Citizens Mocked, Shamed And Call For Governor Obaseki’s Probe Over Hoarded COVID-19 Palliatives

Indegenes of Edo State have descended heavily on Governor Godwin Obaseki for keeping Federal Government’s COVID-19 pandemic palliatives while the people groaned under the pang of hunger.

Governor Obaseki was said to have been one of the state governors who received N12 billion naira bailout palliatives from the Federal Government, including thousands of bags of rice, millions of packages of Indomie Noodles and much to cushion the effects of hunger on the suffering masses over the last eight months.

Thousands of people in Benin City, the state capital invaded Medical Store warehouse along Medical Store Road in Uselu area of the metropolis and looted bags of rice, Indomie Noodles thereby destroying medical equipment meant for disbursement to medical facilities across the state.

In search of government warehouse around the state capital, angry youths invaded private warehouses belonging to individuals and private concerns. One of the youths was heard in an amateur video saying: “blame Governor Obaseki for whatever crisis arising from the warehouse looting”.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe Governor Obaseki to give account on how he spent the palliatives in the state.

Chris Osaze, an indegene of Edo State take a swipe at the governor for only sharing a handful of the palliatives for his party supporters and family friends while the lockdown lasted.

“God Obaseki has acted to type. Edo people have now see the sadistic personage the governor is made off”. The electorate can now continue to celebrate the ‘Saint Obaseki’ we voted”, he said.

A press statement by the governor’s media aide, Mr. Crusoe Osagie futher angered the youths when he said the stored palliatives were meant for the second rounds of COVID-19 pandemic when people’s businesses have collapsed and unable to feed their families.
