Edo 2020: Ogun Claims Taekwondo Gold, Badminton Silver

Ogun State athletes were at their best on Monday by winning one gold and one silver at the 20th National Sports Festival holding in Benin City, Edo State.

Salawudeen Afeez wrote the state name in gold in the Taekwondo Poomsae (Demonstration) Individual Male event concluded at the Indoor sports hall, University of Benin, Ugbowo on Monday, while the badminton female team won silver in the team event.

Afeez feat was not achieved on a platter of gold but with all seriousness as he beats money spinning Delta athlete to silver, while the host state, Edo claimed the bronze medal.

In the badminton event, Dorcas Adesokan led four others, Aminat Ilori, Ogunkanbi Azizat, Jimoh Rukayat and Omotola Felicia to pick the silver having lost to Team Edo in the final, while Team Kwara and Delta picked the bronze medal at the held at Gymnasium hall, Etete, GRA.

In another development, Oyo State recorded its second bronze medals today when Durogbade Adejoke won a bronze at the 1000m Sprint cycling event.

Adejoke has now joined Afeez Adegboyega who won bronze yesterday in kick-boxing as the only two medalists so far from the Pacesetter State at the event.

Meanwhile, in a tough encounter in the boxing event, Ahmed Wasiu representing Oyo State crashed out to Benson Adeyinka from Borno State in a keenly contested affair.

Out of the five judges, three unanimously scored Adeyinka as winner of the bout while two other judges agreed that Ahmed Wasiu won.
