DHQ Refutes Claims of Bandit Leader Turji’s Surrender

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed recent claims that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has surrendered to the Nigerian military.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, clarified the situation regarding Turji.
“Straight to the point — terrorist leader Bello Turji has not surrendered. We are still actively pursuing him,” he stated.

Turji, who is wanted for leading numerous deadly attacks across communities in Zamfara and Sokoto states, remains a high-priority target for security forces.

Reports had recently circulated suggesting that Turji had laid down his arms and freed 32 kidnapped victims as part of a peace effort led by Islamic clerics in Zamfara. The DHQ, however, insists no such surrender has taken place.
