DHQ Inaugurates Court Martial for 36 Military Personnel Over Alleged Mutiny
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has inaugurated a General Court Martial to try 36 serving military personnel accused of breaching national security through alleged mutiny.
The inauguration, which took place on April 24, 2026, follows an earlier statement issued by the DHQ on January 26, 2026, addressing concerns over actions reportedly aimed at undermining the government.
According to the DHQ, the move underscores its commitment to maintaining discipline, accountability, and the integrity of the Armed Forces. The military authority emphasized that the proceedings will adhere strictly to established legal frameworks within the military justice system.
It further assured that the trials will be conducted with fairness, impartiality, and due process, guaranteeing that justice is delivered without bias. The rights of all personnel involved, the DHQ noted, will be respected, with full observance of fair hearing principles.
The statement, signed by Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, reiterated the Armed Forces’ resolve to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the rule of law while safeguarding national stability.
