Delta clears N12bn salary arrears of council workers, teachers
The Delta State Government has cleared the salary arrears owed local government workers and primary school staff. Some of the arrears dated back to 2014 before the emergence of Ifeanyi Okowa as the state governor.
Itiako lkpokpo, chairman, Association of Local Government Organisation of Nigerian (ALGON), while making the disclosure, stated that offsetting the salary backlog was sequel to the receipt of N7 billion being the local government share of the third tranche of the Paris Club Loan refund.
While charging staff of the local government to reciprocate government’s kind effort through enhanced commitment to duty in the overall interest of council areas in Delta State, Ikpokpo assured the governor of their unalloyed dedication, loyalty and support.
According to the chairman, Governor Okowa’s will undoubtedly heighten the morale and commitment of the local government workers with the attendant boost in productivity.
It would be recalled that Governor Okowa did promise in January 2018 that subject to the improvement of the revenue earnings of the state, the state government would assist in clearing salary arrears.
