Dangote releases alleged details of NMDPRA Chief’s Children’s foreign education

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, has released what he described as specific details regarding the alleged foreign education expenses of the four children of the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed.

According to Dangote, the information relates to the children’s secondary education in Switzerland, where they were reportedly enrolled in elite boarding schools for about six years each. Dangote alleged that the combined cost of the foreign education ran into several millions of dollars, a claim he says raises serious questions about public accountability.

The billionaire industrialist, who has been engaged in a public dispute with the petroleum regulator, said the disclosure was aimed at supporting his broader allegations of corruption and regulatory impropriety within the NMDPRA. He maintained that the issue goes beyond personal matters and touches on transparency in public office.

Dangote’s claims have sparked renewed public debate, with civil society groups and members of the public calling for an independent investigation to verify the allegations and ensure accountability.

As of the time of filing this report, Engr. Farouk Ahmed and the NMDPRA have not issued an official response to the specific details released by Dangote. The allegations remain unproven, and no court or investigative body has made a formal finding on the matter.

Observers say the controversy underscores growing public scrutiny of senior public officials’ lifestyles and the source of funding for expensive foreign education, particularly at a time of economic hardship in the country.
