Dangote Refinery Halts Self-Collection of Petroleum Products

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has announced the suspension of self-collection gantry sales of petroleum products at its facility, effective Thursday, September 18, 2025.

The decision, conveyed in an internal circular to marketing partners from the refinery’s Group Commercial Operations Department and sighted on Friday, is part of ongoing operational changes designed to boost efficiency and expand the adoption of its Free Delivery Scheme (FDS). The scheme ensures direct supply of products to filling stations.

According to the statement, “All self-collection gantry sales have been placed on hold until further notice. Likewise, payments tied to active PFIs for self-collection are also suspended. Any payments made after September 18 will not be honoured.”

The company urged marketers to fully embrace the FDS, which it described as a more reliable method of guaranteeing timely supply while tackling product diversion. Dangote further assured stakeholders that the scheme remains active for both new and existing clients, while apologising for any inconvenience caused.

The development comes against the backdrop of an ongoing rift between the refinery, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN). While NUPENG has faulted the refinery for allegedly blocking unionisation of its truck drivers, DAPPMAN has accused it of compelling marketers to rely on its logistics services at commercial rates.

Dangote, however, dismissed the allegations, maintaining that logistics costs cannot be treated as subsidies and stressing that the FDS was designed to stabilise distribution and reduce overall costs.

Industry experts caution that the suspension could put pressure on independent marketers and retail station operators yet to register under the free delivery arrangement, as they previously depended on gantry self-collection.
