Dangote levels corruption allegations against NMDPRA Boss

…alleges $5m spent on children’s Swiss education

Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), has accused the chief executive officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, of corruption, alleging that the regulator spent millions of dollars on his children’s education abroad.

Dangote claimed that Ahmed paid about $5 million in school fees to secondary schools in Switzerland for four of his children over a six-year period.

Although he did not name the schools involved, the billionaire businessman said the alleged expenditure was far beyond the known income of a public official.

Speaking on the matter, Dangote said the NMDPRA boss was “living above his means” and called on the federal government to urgently investigate the claims.

He argued that such spending raises serious concerns about the integrity of regulatory oversight in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

According to Dangote, the allegation points to potential conflicts of interest that could undermine transparency and fairness in the regulation of the oil and gas industry, particularly in areas affecting investors and operators.

As of the time of filing this report, Farouk Ahmed and the NMDPRA had not issued an official response to the allegations.
