COVID-19: State governments Shun FG’s directives on schools closure

These States include Rivers, Cross River, Gombe, Sokoto, Zamfara, Delta and Oyo While states like Kogi, Anambra, Plateau and Ekiti is set to resume on the 18th.
Commissioner for Quality Education, in cross River State, Dr Godwin Amanke, In an interview says there no no going back on their decision on school resumption on 11th January.
“That is our original date on the timetable we rolled out last year.”
“Individual states are subject to their peculiar circumstances. We don’t have any imminent threat in the state to warrant such a shift.
“We will encourage schools to observe necessary protocols. The parents have a role to play. The teachers have a role to play and children have a role to play.”
Also in Oyo State the Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, said schools in Oyo state will resume 11th January
“ Oyo schools resume on January 11.”
In the same vain the The Gombe State Commissioner for Education, Dr Habu Dahiru, said plans had not being made to adjust the school resumption date from 11th to 18th,
“Gombe’s resumption date is still 11th of January. Last time, due to COVID-19, the school calendar had to change. The local epidemiologist has not told me we are in great danger, if we practise the COVID-19 protocols well just like we did when we opened schools earlier.
