COVID-19: Ogun People Turn Streets Beggars To Survive Lockdown Hardship


ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA

The effect of Coronavirus pandemic is taking its toll in Abeokuta and other parts of Ogun State as people have turned begging for alms across the streets to survive the hardship.

The deadly virus has claimed thousands of lives across the world as well as paralyzing the economic activities globally, in which it has adversely affected business activities.

Daily Dispatch visited major streets across the state capital noted that people were seeing begging for alms from motorists and storming the residences of well meaning individuals to survive the occasion.

Notable among those streets are Oba Lipede street, Lai Balogun street at Ibara housing estate, Onikolobo area, Oluwo area and many others.

Mostly affected in the hardship syndrome were house wives, aged women and men as well as young ladies who could not hide their plights since no one can determine when the pandemic lockdown will eventually comes to an end.

However, the frontage of the former governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun house has become a safe haven for many women and men who thronged his house on daily basis for palliative measures, in which he has not disappointed in attending to their needs.

Senator Amosun, representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly in Abuja in fact has become a God sent to many of these people having seen him as the last hope for survival.

With this development, the Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration has a lot to do before the menace could escalate beyond measure, while well meaning individuals in the state should also to come their rescue in order to support the state government efforts to cushion the looming hunger virus.
