COSEG blasts Yerima Shettima, vows to oppose northern president come 2023

The president of Arewa Youth Consultative forum ,Alhaji Shettima Yerima has come under heavy attack and a warning has been handed to him to desist from canvassing for a return of power to the northern part of the country after the tenure of the incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 as that will automatically alter the rotation of the office between the south and the north and a threat to the unity of the country.

This latest warning was handed by the Coalition of Oodua Self Determination group(COSEG)in a press release signed by the chairman of the group,Mr Ifedayo Ogunlana and issued in Ibadan lambasted the president of the Arewa youth consultative forum, Alhaji Yerima shettima on his remarks as regards 2023 presidency and vowed to stoutly oppose the emergence of any NOTHERN candidate with everything they are blessed with.
The COSEG Chairman said” Our attention has been drawn to a reckless statement made by Alhaji Yerima shettima on the 2023 presidency, where he was claimed to have said that the north will produce president again by 2023, not minding that by then president Buhari who we whole heatedly supported, would have ruled for 8years. We believe that Alhaji Yerima is still living in the past or probably he likes grandstanding and always wants to be in the news. If not,he would have known that Justice and fairness are the only factors that can unite this country. We wonder what reasons he could give to substantiate his illogical conclusion. If he wants to base this on the number of years the North or the South has ruled as proffered in his contaminated argument,we wish to refer him to who has ruled and which region has ruled from 1960 when Nigeria gained independece,or did Nigeria gain independence in 1999. We urge him to seal his mouth and think deeply before he throws the country into darkness because of his greed or back for power always”

The group also warned those testing water with same argument and statement to always know that they are not been fair and are gradually putting the country on fire. Dayo Ogunlana said” These unpatriotic Nigerians who always play god must be told in clear terms that the South will not fold their arms and allow these reckless Nigerians who care less about the unity of the country distort or finger our intelligence and our shaky believe in Nigeria as it were. We want to warn these elements to thread carefully and not allow their selfish and parochial interests override the unity of Nigeria.

The group while restating their support for president Buhari who they worked for his emergence, also advice the president to come out and check his kinsmen who care less about the unity of Nigeria.
According to Comrade Dayo Ogunlana ” it is a known fact that we worked tirelessly for the emergence of President Buhari in the 2019 election,we therefore restate our continuous support for him and his team.We plead that he should warn his kinsmen to thread carefully and desist from statements that will divide the country or change our minds on our belief in him because we see him as a man of Justice and fairness and this stands untill we prove otherwise”.

Coseg finally warns that they will vehemently oppose the emergence of any notherner for the 2023 presidency.
” we make bold to say that in the event that our warning is not heeded ,we shall resist and sternly oppose the emergence of any notherner in 2023 election as the region would have served the 8 years term enshrined in the Constitution and by then ,the spirit of rotational presidency in the Constitution must be adhered to because this has always been the case. Any attempt to go off this system that is promoting unity and trust among the North and South will be seriously resisted as not doing so will result in injustice and rape of the constituion. This might erode our presently forced and shaky trust in Nigeria. We had in the past called for a dissolution of Nigeria because of its present structure but we have always given president Buhari whom we so much believe in an iota of doubt. We hope he will not disappoint us as all our trust in his sense of Justice and fairness still stands. The yorubas tirelessly worked for his emergence without looking back because of the trust we repose in him and this must not be betrayed. To who much is given, much is expected”
