In a stunning turn of events, constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District have initiated a recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing a vote of no confidence in her representation. This move comes after a tumultuous period for the senator, marred by controversies surrounding her conduct and allegations of misconduct.

The recall process, which is being carried out beyond party lines, underscores the growing dissatisfaction among constituents with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s performance as their senator. The constituents have expressed concerns over her handling of key issues affecting the district, including poverty, infrastructure, and education.

In a joint statement signed by key stakeholders of the political parties that participated in the election that produced her through a court order, the statement reads: “the decision to initiate the recall process was not taken lightly. We have tried to engage with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan on several occasions, but our efforts have been met with disdain and arrogance. We believe that it is time for a change, and we are committed to ensuring that the voices of our constituents are heard.”

The recall process is expected to take two days across all the polling units in the five local governments of KogiCentral, during which time the constituents will be required to sign a petition calling for the senator’s recall.
