COAS Charges New Recruits on Loyalty, Discipline as Army Injects 3,439 Additional Manpower

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM), has charged newly trained recruits of the Nigerian Army to uphold the highest standards of loyalty, discipline and professionalism as they formally join the service.

Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the charge at the Passing Out Parade of 3,439 soldiers of the 89 Regular Intake of the Nigerian Army, held on Saturday at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, after the recruits successfully completed six months of intensive military training.

Describing the parade as a testament to dedication and perseverance, the COAS, who was the Special Guest of Honour and Reviewing Officer, said the recruits’ successful completion of training reflected hard work, discipline and commitment to service.

He stressed that the induction of the new soldiers was significant in strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army, noting that the service continues to confront evolving domestic and transnational security threats across the country.

“Your successful training reflects hard work, dedication, and discipline. You have been moulded to meet the highest standards of soldiering and are now entrusted with the sacred duty of safeguarding the territorial integrity of our nation,” Shaibu said.

According to him, the additional manpower not only boosts the Army’s strength but also reinforces its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that the Nigerian Army remains a professional, combat-ready force capable of responding decisively to threats.

The COAS commended Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, for its historic role in producing professional soldiers since its establishment in 1924, describing the institution as the backbone of the Army’s training capability. He pledged continued support for the depot in terms of logistics, infrastructure and personnel welfare to sustain its high standards.

Shaibu also urged the recruits to maintain discipline, integrity and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties, reminding them of the Oath of Allegiance they had taken to uphold civil and military laws.

“By that oath, you are now bound to serve with honour, dignity and unwavering loyalty to constituted authority. Avoid any act that may tarnish the image of the Nigerian Army or the nation,” he warned.

The Army chief expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, and other security agencies for their continued support to the Nigerian Army. He also commended the commandant, instructors and staff of Depot Nigerian Army for their commitment to training professional soldiers.

He congratulated the passing-out recruits, their parents and guardians, wishing them distinguished careers and safe, fulfilling deployments to various Army formations across the country.
