BREAKING: Senate to investigate Saraki, Melaye
The Senate, on Tuesday resolved to investigate its President, Senator Bukola Saraki over the reported bullet proof Range Rover SUV worth N370 million seized by Nigeria Customs Service.
Presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the senate also resolved to investigate the alleged certificate scandal against Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District.
Erstwhile Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume through Order 14 and 15 explained that the media has been a washed over the weekend due to various allegations that seems to be dragging the integrity of Upper legislative chambers in the mud.
“Mr. President, Distinguished Colleagues, over the weekend, the Senate has been bashed with criticisms over SUV Ranger Rover bullet proof belonging to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki”.
“I wish to speak through Order 14 and 15 that these matters be investigated in line with our tradition”, he added.
Displaying copies of papers and photocopies of online publication including DAILY POST, Ndume added that damning allegations against principal officers have been investigated in the past, hence, there was need to investigate them.
In response, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu implored him to lay copies while referring to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges to revert back to the Senate in four weeks time.
It is recalled that the seized SUV bullet proof Ranger Rover belonging to Nigeria’s Senate President was seized for evading Customs duties worth N74 million, while only N7 million was paid.
