Breaking: Police Charge Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, brother, and 10 others over Abuja protest

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday arraigned Nnamdi Kanu’s counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, his brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and ten other individuals for their alleged roles in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja on Monday.

The group was brought before an FCT court on charges of inciting disturbance and breaching public peace, following claims that the demonstration obstructed traffic, disrupted public movement, and violated an existing court order.

Court filings made public by former National Human Rights Commission Chairman, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, detailed that the accused persons were accused of chanting war songs and blocking roads while demanding Kanu’s release.

Confirming the arrests, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, told Channels Television that Ejimakor, Prince Kanu, and others were detained after attempting to access restricted areas during the protest.

“We arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and his lawyer because they insisted on entering restricted zones. Six others were also picked up near the Transcorp area for the same conduct, making eight in total. They are currently at the State CID, and will be charged after investigations,” Hundeyin said.

He further stressed that the police would not condone any action capable of breaching public order or disobeying lawful directives.
