Breaking News: Court Strikes Out EFCC Case Against Former Kwara Governor, Finance Commissioner

The Federal High Court in Ilorin has today struck out the 12-count charges against former Kwara State Governor Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, also known as Maigida, and his former Commissioner for Finance, Prince Ademola Banu.

The ruling follows a formal application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to withdraw its charges against the two officials. The presiding judge ruled in favor of the withdrawal, allowing the EFCC the opportunity to file fresh charges in the state high court.

The duo was initially arraigned in February 2024 on multiple charges related to financial misconduct. Details regarding the nature of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the EFCC’s decision to withdraw remain forthcoming.

The court’s decision highlights the ongoing complexities in Nigeria’s fight against corruption, as the EFCC seeks to navigate legal avenues for accountability.
