Atiku Abubakar Condemns Deadly Boko Haram Attack in Borno State
Former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has strongly denounced the recent Boko Haram assault on Darajamal, a community situated along the Bama-Banki Road in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.
The attack claimed the lives of 58 civilians and five soldiers.
In a statement shared on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter), Atiku described the incident as a tragic and senseless act of violence, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and calling for a renewed national effort to end terrorism.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic killing of scores of people, including gallant soldiers, in the recent Boko Haram attack on Darajamal, Borno State. This senseless violence is a painful reminder of the heavy price our people continue to pay in the face of terror,” he stated.
Atiku extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Borno, and Governor Babagana Zulum, whose prompt visit to the affected community he praised as a show of compassion and leadership.
He added, “May Almighty Allah grant the departed Al-Jannah Firdaus and comfort their loved ones.”
Calling for collective resolve, Atiku urged Nigerians to unite against the threat of terrorism.
“The sacrifices of our soldiers and civilians must inspire stronger community security, deeper collaboration, and unwavering commitment to peace,” he said.
The attackers not only took lives but also destroyed over 20 houses, vehicles, food supplies, and personal belongings of resettled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), further devastating the already fragile community.
Governor Zulum visited the scene on Saturday to console the affected families and assess the destruction.
In a similar tone, the United Nations also condemned the attack. Mohamed Fall, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, called on Nigerian authorities to bring those responsible to justice and extended condolences to the victims’ families.
