Asset Declaration: Oyo Governor Aide charges opposition to verify by themselves

By ABIODUN JIMOH

Jide Ajani, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has tasked those who are doubting the recent asset declaration of the governor to go and verify by themselves at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

Ajani stated this at a television program themed ‘Asset Declaration and Anti-Graft War’ monitored, where he urged them to do the needful to verify the declaration at the anti-graft agency office.

At the interview program, the SA noted that the history of asset declaration commenced during governorship debate where the governor said that he paid the sum of one billion naira as tax to the government, to the amazement of people.

“People at the debate wondered how could it be true, where did that going to come from, and the governor told them to hold their peace, when he gets elected as governor, he will declare his asset and make it public, and they can then see and verify the figure that have been declared. That is the history of that declaration.

“It should be noted that governor Makinde set up many companies belonging to him, and they are into so many jobs, even one the companies signed a contract for twenty years.

“We should try to avoid falling into the weapon of poverty as a standard way of doing things. We have people who had promised to serve the people, but instead aggrandise massive wealth for themselves. He should be commanded for setting the pace.

“Nigerians should appreciate people who are truthful. The governor said he will set up the Oyo State version of EFCC, in which he has sent the bill to the House of Assembly to work on it. With this, he is sending message to the people around him that they have come to work, and not to accrue wealth for themselves.

“Those people making noises are from outside the state. Oyo State people are happy to have governor that is faithful and truthful to his words. His declaration will enhance good governance.

He made a statement that validates his good intention that in the event that anything is heard, observed or noticed regarding infractions of corruption practices, he will go to the extent of relinquishing his so-called immunity to show that he is ready to face the law.

“As we all know that the asset declaration form will be verified by Code of Conduct Bureau discreetly to ascertain the genuinely of the declaration.”
