APC Postpones Adamawa Congresses Amid Reports of Fintiri’s Planned Defection

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the conduct of its state, local government and ward congresses in Adamawa State.

The decision, announced on Tuesday, has sparked political speculation across the state, with party insiders suggesting the move may be connected to plans by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Although the APC has not officially stated reasons for the postponement, sources within the party said the delay is intended to allow ongoing political realignments in the state to be concluded before internal party structures are formalised through congresses.

According to the sources, Governor Fintiri is reportedly finalising arrangements to join the ruling party, a move that could significantly alter the political landscape in Adamawa. If the defection materialises, he is expected to assume a leading role within the APC in the state ahead of the rescheduled congresses.

Political observers say the postponement may be a strategic step to avoid internal disputes and factional contests that could arise if congresses were held before the governor’s anticipated switch.

Attempts to get official confirmation from both the Adamawa State Government and the APC leadership were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The development comes amid a broader wave of political alignments across several states as parties reposition ahead of future electoral cycles.
