APC NWC Waives Screening for Tinubu Ahead of Primaries

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress has approved a waiver exempting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from undergoing screening ahead of the party’s forthcoming primary elections.

The decision was reached at the NWC’s 188th meeting, where members resolved to deem the president as duly screened in accordance with the party’s constitution.

The committee cited provisions of Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv), which empower it to organise primaries and grant waivers under special circumstances deemed to be in the party’s best interest.

In a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party pointed to what it described as overwhelming endorsements and votes of confidence already secured by the president from key stakeholders across its structures.

These endorsements include backing from the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs, notably during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, as well as subsequent statutory meetings.

The NWC maintained that, as the incumbent president and leader of the party who had previously undergone screening ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, requiring another appearance before a screening panel would be “redundant and unnecessary.”

The waiver effectively clears President Tinubu to participate in the APC primaries without further procedural hurdles, reinforcing his standing within the party ahead of the electoral process.
