Another Dangote Truck Accident Sparks Outrage in Enugu, One Week After Ruth Otabor’s Death

Tragedy struck again on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway as a Dangote truck was involved in a devastating accident at Four Corner, Nkanu West, Enugu State.

The crash, which occurred over the weekend, claimed the lives of an entire family along with three others, leaving the community in shock.

Witnesses described a horrifying scene where a smaller vehicle was crushed completely beneath the weight of the trailer. Rescue efforts were futile, as no occupants of the car survived.

This incident comes just a week after the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister to Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna. Ruth had sustained severe injuries in Auchi, Edo State, after being struck by another Dangote truck.

Despite receiving medical care and plans for overseas treatment, she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

In response to Ruth’s case, the Dangote Group issued a statement expressing deep condolences and highlighting their efforts to provide financial and medical assistance.

The company reaffirmed its dedication to safety and pledged to enhance its operational standards.

However, the latest accident in Enugu has reignited public anger, with growing calls for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations—particularly for heavy-duty trucks. Citizens and advocacy groups are demanding accountability, questioning how such repeated incidents continue to occur with little visible change.

With two fatal accidents involving Dangote vehicles in just under two weeks, the pressure is mounting for both corporate and regulatory bodies to take concrete action to prevent further loss of life on Nigerian roads.
