Amosun’s delegate stranded in Abuja airport, attempts to sleep at airport

Ogun State All Progressives Congress [APC] Chairmen who were taken to Abuja to defend the Governor Ibikunle Amosun “consensus list” were reported stranded at the Nmandi Azikwe Airport, Abuja yesterday night when they could not get a flight to take them back home and there was no hotel arrangement for them to spend the night.

Airport officials were said to have asked them to vacate the departure lounge where they had hoped to spend the night after all efforts to find where to sleep proved abortive leaving them to roam round the airport completely disillusioned.

The Local Government Party Chairmen, numbering about 40 had left the Ogun State House in Abuja hoping to get a flight back to Lagos after their mission to meet the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and get him to accept the “consensus list” failed.

Most of them were said to have no change of clothes as they were not prepared to spend the night in Abuja.

Particularly pathetic was the case of one of them from Ogun East Senatorial District who was said to be on his way to the hospital to see his sick wife before being summoned for the trip which was not expected to take two nights.

Help however, came their way notable Ogun State indigene that was in Abuja on a business trip got wind of their distress, arranged an hotel for them to eat and pass the night.

The Chairmen were said to have felt abandoned believing that if the reason for their trip had been successful they would have been treated with more dignity and respect.

It will be recalled that the NWC of the party in rejecting the consensus list said that a minimum of three persons for each elective post had paid and collected forms and this automatically that meant there was no consensus reached.
The NWC referred Gov. Amosun to its statement that where any other aspirant signifies interest through purchase of its Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for any position in question, there shall be primaries.

The party had in its statement referred to said, “the attention of the APC has been drawn to the announcement of consensus candidates for elective positions in some states, it is therefore, pertinent to make some clarifications to enlighten party faithful on the procedure for nominating candidates.
While consensus is provided by the party’s constitution, the option is conditional.
Consensus does not foreclose Direct or Indirect Primaries for all elective positions as contained in the resolution of the 6th Meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
Again, consensus will apply when no other aspirant signify interest through purchase of nomination.”
