Adesanya-Davies bemoans Kwara Eruku killings

Abductions Former Presidential Candidate & Princess of Ira, Kwara State*

Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, former Presidential Candidate and revered Princess of Ira in Kwara State, has expressed deep sorrow, outrage, and strong condemnation over the horrific attack, killings, and mass abductions carried out by armed bandits at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State in lament.

The tragic incident, which occurred during a solemn time of worship, has left the community in grief and shock. According to reports, the attackers invaded the church premises, killing innocent citizens — including key church members — and abducting several worshippers. Disturbing updates indicate that the bandits have now placed an exorbitant ransom demand of ₦100 million on each of the 38 abductees, further aggravating the anguish and uncertainty in the affected families.

Princess Adesanya-Davies described the incident as “a heartbreaking reflection of the worsening insecurity facing our nation, and a direct assault on the sanctity of worship, human dignity, and the peaceful existence of the people of Kwara State.”

She lamented that houses of worship — traditionally places of refuge and peace — have now become targets of criminal violence, saying such tragedies must never be normalized in Nigeria.

Condolences and Solidarity with the Eruku Community:
Princess Adesanya-Davies extended her heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, the leadership and members of the CAC church, and the entire Eruku community.

“This is a dark and painful moment for Eruku and for Kwara State as a whole. I join all well-meaning Nigerians in mourning the precious lives cut short by this senseless attack. To the families grieving or anxiously awaiting the return of their abducted relatives, I stand with you in prayer, solidarity, and compassion,” she said.

She noted that the emotional, psychological, and spiritual toll on the victims’ families cannot be overstated, describing their experience as “one no community should ever have to endure.”

Call for Immediate and Decisive Security Action:
Princess Adesanya-Davies called for urgent and coordinated action from all security agencies to rescue the abducted victims, restore peace to the affected area, and prevent future occurrences.

“The safety of our citizens must be treated as a national emergency. Security operatives must strengthen their presence in vulnerable areas, especially border communities like Eruku, and deploy all necessary intelligence and resources to apprehend the perpetrators. It is unacceptable that criminals continue to unleash terror on peaceful worshippers without swift consequences.”

She urged the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the DSS, and other security bodies to work closely with Kwara State authorities and community leaders to ensure effective surveillance and protection.

Commendation of Efforts and Call for Greater Collaboration:
While acknowledging ongoing efforts by both federal and state governments to combat insecurity, Princess Adesanya-Davies emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration, consistent intelligence sharing, and community-based security strategies.

“Security is a collective responsibility. Government, traditional institutions, civil society, and local communities must unite in a strong and sustained partnership. Only through such collaboration can we overcome the rising threats facing our society.”

Appeal for National Reflection and Humanitarian Support:
She encouraged Nigerians to offer prayers, moral support, and humanitarian assistance to the affected families. She further called on Christian bodies, humanitarian groups, and well-meaning citizens to rally round the Eruku community in this time of grief.

“May God comfort all who are mourning, strengthen the heartbroken, and bring divine protection upon our land. Let us not lose hope. In unity, compassion, and faith, we shall overcome this tragedy.”

Princess Adesanya-Davies reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for peace, justice, and stronger security measures in Nigeria.

“My thoughts and prayers remain with the people of Eruku. I firmly believe that with sincerity, courage, and decisive leadership, Nigeria can restore safety and dignity to all its citizens. May every abducted victim return home safely and speedily. May God heal our land.”
