ADC Members Petition National Chairman, Seek Disqualification of Jigawa Governorship Aspirant Over ICPC Indictment
Some members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State have petitioned the party’s National Chairman, urging the leadership to bar governorship aspirant, Sabo Nakudu, from emerging as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
In a petition dated July 7, 2026, the party members alleged that Nakudu was indicted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over the handling of constituency projects during his tenure as senator representing Jigawa South-West from 2015 to 2023.
The petition, signed by Abubakar Sani and Ibrahim Mai Jama’a, claimed that an ICPC report led to the recovery of about N2.8 billion, two Hilux vehicles, water pumping machines, motorcycles and drilling rigs allegedly linked to constituency projects executed through companies associated with the former lawmaker.
The petitioners cited media reports published in 2022, including one by Premium Times, which detailed the ICPC’s findings on alleged irregularities involving constituency projects.
According to them, allowing Nakudu to fly the ADC governorship flag in the 2027 election could expose the party to political attacks from the ruling All Progressives Congress and undermine its chances of winning power in Jigawa State.
They argued that the party should have conducted more rigorous background checks on aspirants before the recently concluded governorship primary, insisting that Nakudu ought to have been disqualified if proper due diligence had been carried out.
The petition further stated that Jigawa residents were looking to the ADC for “good and accountable governance” and warned that presenting an aspirant facing such allegations would contradict the party’s message of reform.
The petitioners appealed to the ADC National Chairman to take urgent action, saying the party must protect its integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing the petition, there was no indication that the ADC national leadership had responded to the allegations. Likewise, Nakudu had not publicly reacted to the petition.
Note: The allegations contained in the petition reflect the claims of the petitioners. There is no indication that Nakudu has been convicted of any offence in connection with the allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
