ADC FCT Defends Suspension of Senator Ireti, Lists Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has defended the suspension of Ireti Kingibe, citing what it described as a series of actions that undermined the party’s interests during the recent Area Council elections.

In a statement issued by the FCT Publicity Secretary of the party, Nwigbo Chukwudi Samuel, the party accused the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory of withholding campaign funds meant for candidates during the local government polls.

According to the statement, the funds were allegedly released only after the elections had been concluded and the party had lost, with claims that the candidates were asked to remain silent on the issue.

The party also alleged that the senator failed to provide financial support to the party’s executive members during the election period, forcing officials to rely on personal funds to carry out party activities and preparations for the polls.

ADC FCT further claimed that Senator Kingibe had initially provided the party with an office space but later reclaimed it under what it described as unclear circumstances. The party said the development has left its officials without a proper operational base, forcing them to hold meetings in open spaces.

The statement also accused the senator of unilaterally issuing a memo dated March 9, 2026, allegedly suspending all party activities in the FCT without constitutional authority.

According to the party, the move came barely a month before a major election and raised concerns about internal party cohesion.

Despite the grievances, the FCT chapter of the ADC called on the party’s National Working Committee to intervene and facilitate dialogue between both sides in order to resolve the dispute amicably.

The party leadership in the territory said its decision was aimed at protecting the interests of the party and urged members to work toward unity ahead of upcoming elections.
