Abaribe picks APGA senatorial form after dumping PDP, resigning as Senate minority leader
Barely 48 hours after boycotting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Abia state over alleged irregularities, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya AAbaribe, has reportedly joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
According to sundry media reports, Abaribe who was jostling for the the PDP guber race had to withdraw when it became clear that the process was rigged even before the actual exercise.
The state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, had already positioned himself to replace Abaribe in the Senate and had gone ahead to win the ticket.
But Abaribe, as reported, picked APGA form to return to the Senate and is set to contest the party’s primary election holding on Friday 27 May, 2022.
Recall that Governor Ikpeazu, had prepared the ground for the emergence of his man, Prof. Uche Ikonne, as the governorship candidate of the PDP in Abia state.
With Abaribe likely to grab the APGA senatorial ticket for Abia South, the battle-line is now drawn between the Senator and Governor Ikpeazu, his Ngwa brother from the same community in the 2023 senatorial election
