A Peek Into Gorgeous Golding’s Mind ™: The Treasure We Have In Friendship
EPISODE 019
By Gorgeous Golding
While I was cooking this evening, different thoughts flashed through my mind that made me appreciate my friends more, particularly the one that happened the day I paid a friend a visit.
While we were inside with one other friend, I had a call that took me to the balcony. When the call was done, I just sat there for a while, burdened with relational thoughts.

After some time, my friend came looking for me. He came and gently said, “You’ve been here for a while. Are you okay?”
Then he sat next to me.
I didn’t know how deeply I had gotten lost in my thoughts or how much time had passed. Without realising it, I had spent almost an hour there.
I just told him I was fine and just thinking. It was honestly a vulnerable and emotional moment that got me teary, though I fought hard not to cry. Then I said, “I’m beginning to get scared.”
He asked, “Scared of what?”
I said, “I think I’m too picky, and I really want what I want, but in a world where what you want doesn’t always want you…”
“What if I don’t get anyone to marry?”
He smiled softly and paused for a few seconds. Then he said, “I will marry you.”
I turned to look at him with a childlike smile and asked, “Really?”
He said, “Yes. I would marry you if that ever happens.”
We both laughed over it and then went back inside.
I didn’t really think about how precious that simple assurance was until tonight.
He may not have meant it in the way I was thinking about it, but he said such a powerful thing just to make me happy.
That was pure love on display, and I’m grateful to God for it.
This thought also showed me more reasons why we should be intentional about making friends.
I remember calling him after he travelled to ask him about what he said that day and whether he still meant it. I was just checking in on that, and he said, “Yes, I do.”
He’s never asked me out or misbehaved around me.
We were just a small circle of friends who dined together, fought with each other, reasoned together, shared dreams and plans together, and prayed together.
I also remember going on a ride with another friend and, while talking about relationships and marriage, he confessed that he was tired and unbothered and wasn’t stressing anymore.
He said that when he was ready to settle down, he would pick one of his good single friends and marry her.
You see, this also made me realise how possible it is that the partner you’re expecting might just be sitting in your circle of friends.
Who knows?
It really amazes me when young singles are friends with completely married people.
How?
If all your old friends are married, update your friends. 😂
This whole thought made me see how much of a treasure we have in friendship, yet how often we leave it unappreciated.
Be thankful for it if you have it.
By the way, I’m sure you must have wondered what I was cooking when you read this.
I cooked spaghetti, and I enjoyed every bite of it. 😂
You can also reach out to your friends and thank them for holding a space in your life.
