9mobile Rebrands as T2

Unveils Bold Vision for Nigeria’s Telecom Future

Nigeria’s fourth-largest telecom operator, 9mobile, officially transitioned to T2 on Friday, marking a decisive rebrand that signals a bold new era in the nation’s telecommunications landscape. The company’s visual identity has shifted from its familiar green to a striking orange, representing what it calls a renewed ambition and strategic direction.

According to THE CONCLACE, the move reflects more than a change in logo or colours — it is a complete reimagining of the brand’s purpose and positioning within the fast-evolving Nigerian telecom market.

Speaking at the launch event themed “Tech Meets Ten”, Chief Executive Officer Obafemi Banigbe described the rebrand as “a strategic overhaul” designed to make T2 a digital-first, customer-obsessed company.

“This is not just a name change; it’s the beginning of a new chapter,” Banigbe declared. “We are evolving into something greater, more ambitious, and aligned with the future.”

He outlined T2’s mission to empower Nigerians — from creatives and remote workers to startups and everyday consumers — by providing a platform that fuels both innovation and seamless connectivity.

The transformation follows LH Telecommunication Limited’s acquisition of a 95.5% majority stake in 9mobile last year, ushering in new ownership and leadership focus.

Formerly known as Etisalat Nigeria before rebranding to 9mobile in 2017, the company has weathered turbulent years, including the exit of key investors, financial strain, and infrastructure setbacks. Its subscriber base, once exceeding 22 million between 2014 and 2016, had dropped to just 3.2 million by January 2025.

Banigbe addressed these challenges directly, framing them as stepping stones rather than failures.

“We have endured struggles, but like Nigeria, we always bounce back stronger and sharper. Our scars are not signs of defeat; they are reminders of our resilience,” he said.

Recent moves — such as a national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria — highlight T2’s strategy to boost coverage, improve service quality, and win back market share.
