2019: WHY APC CAUCUS RATIFIES AREGESOLA’S CANDIDATURE FOR LAGOS SENATE SEAT *AS ADEOLA IS PENCILLED FOR OGUN GUBER

Since it is no more news that the enigmatic Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is believed to be warming up to contest a senatorial seat in Lagos in 2019, The Parroters can authoritatively report the reason behind the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State Chapter to draft him to the race.
Aregbesola, who defeated the former governor of his state, Osun, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola via an Appeal Court verdict in November 2010, will vacate office in November 2018 when he would be completing his two terms constitutionally allowed.
The Ilesha born human rights activist and unbowed pro-democracy crusader was also once a Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Lagos State before he was drafted to Osun State for governorship race on the platform of the defunct Action Congress (AC), in 2007.
It was believed then that the larger than life size of a retired General, Oyinlola has sent a lot of home based aspirants parking from the scene and there was nobody with political bicep to confront the General.
The Parroters learnt that, because the Osun scenario seems to be gathering momentum in Alomosho, a densely populated axis of the Western senatorial District of Lagos State towards 2019 that the APC top hierarchy in the state decided to literally conscript Aregbesola back to Lagos for a rescue mission.
At a meeting in one of the South-west states recently, members of the top hierarchy of the party, who feared that the PDP may exhibit a strong show through its old reliable, Segun Adewale, agreed unanimously that, to neutralise the PDP’s likely influence, only the likes Aregbesola, a renowned Alimosho political Trojan, has the capacity to perform the magic. Segun Adewale is the current Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the Sheriff faction of the PDP.
Two out of the four top members of the party’s king makers were at the meeting. The top four members in the order of preference, according to our checks are, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Baba Sunmola and Honourable Bayo Oshinnowo (Pepper).
Some political watchers however debunked the fears of the acclaimed kingmakers, reasoning that, with the superlative performance of Governor Akinwumi Ambode across the state in less than two years in office, PDP, which is already in disarray, cannot perform any magic. A lecturer of Political Science in one of the northern states university told our correspondent in confidence that, “Ambode has already nailed the coffin of opposition in Lagos State with his achievements,” saying, “in the next two years, only a political novice will stick out his neck to waste his money against Ambode and his APC.”
In the same vein, the current Senator, representing Lagos West in the Senate, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola is said to have been penciled down for Ogun State governorship race in 2019 by the same kingmakers at one of their recent meetings.
Olamilekan, who hails from Yewa/awori axis of Ogun State, started his legislative career from the Lagos State House of Assembly before graduating to the House of Representatives in Abuja. He is currently in the Senate representing the Lagos West.
