Breaking: 17 Reps Dump ADC for NDC as Defections Rock House, Abejide Joins APC
No fewer than 17 members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), in a development that signals shifting political alignments ahead of the next election cycle.
The defections were formally announced during plenary, drawing attention from lawmakers and observers as the list of defectors was read on the floor of the Green Chamber.
Among those who crossed over to the NDC are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike.
Others include Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.
In a related development, Leke Abejide also announced his defection from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further depleting the ranks of the opposition party.
The reasons for the defections were not immediately disclosed during plenary, but such moves are often linked to internal party disputes, strategic political calculations, or alignment with emerging coalitions.
The wave of defections is expected to alter the balance of power within the House and could have wider implications for party strength and legislative dynamics in the coming months.
More details are expected to emerge as reactions trail the development.
