Wike revokes over 1,000 Abuja properties after owners default on statutory payments
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has annulled the titles of 1,095 properties in Abuja following owners’ failure to pay accumulated ground rent, land use conversion charges, or Certificate of Occupancy fees within the 14-day deadline that lapsed on Tuesday, 25 November 2025.
The decision was announced in a weekend statement by the FCT Administration’s Department of Land Administration.
According to the FCTA, 835 properties were revoked for outstanding ground rent, while 260 were flagged for defaulting on land use conversion fees. The published notice also featured details such as file and plot numbers, cadastral zones, districts, owed sums, and dates of revocation.
The Administration noted that enforcement only began after “multiple notices in newspapers, online platforms, and television stations” urging defaulters to settle their arrears. Non-compliance, it added, violates Section 28 (5a & 5b) of the Land Use Act and the conditions governing the Rights of Occupancy granted to affected parties.
The revoked properties include those linked to federal and state governments, public institutions, private firms, and several prominent Nigerians. Among the individuals named were former Chief of Army Staff Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma; former First Lady Patience Jonathan; former Senate President David Mark; ex-Jigawa governor Sule Lamido; Senator Ali Ndume; former Osun deputy governor Iyiola Omisore; the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari; Professor Bolaji Akinyemi; Tony Anenih; and former Petroleum Minister Alison-Madueke.
Former governors listed include Abdullahi Ganduje, Adeniyi Adebayo, Donald Duke, Aliyu Wamakko, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Ayodele Fayose, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Others affected include Minister of State for Industry John Owan Enoh; Aminu Alhassan Dantata; Bashir Tofa; Audu Abubakar; Jimoh Ibrahim; Ado Abdullahi Bayero; Ghali Umar Na’Abba; Olu Agunloye; Hakeem Baba-Ahmed; Iyabo Obasanjo; and Babatunde Idiagbon.
Institutions named in the revocation list include the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Navy, the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the governments of Kaduna, Oyo, and Borno States.
Corporate organisations affected include BUA International Limited, First Bank, Standard Trust Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Ecobank, Union Bank, United Bank for Africa, Zenith Bank, the Niger Delta Development Commission, the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
The FCTA stated that the revocation exercise will continue as empowered by the Land Use Act.
