Wike Promises Abuja Infrastructure Boost in 2026
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that Abuja will undergo an unprecedented infrastructural transformation in 2026, marking a new phase in the city’s development.
Wike made the promise on Thursday during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of Collector Road CN2, Emmanuel I. Ogala Street, linking Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way), including Road ILS 5 within Katampe District.
“Next year will be a different year altogether. You will witness a massive infrastructure turnaround in the FCT — something that has not been seen since Abuja was created 50 years ago. We will be 50 by February,” the minister said.
Wike also addressed ongoing challenges surrounding the “Light Up Abuja” project, alleging deliberate attempts to sabotage the initiative.
“Let me appeal to CGC, one of the contractors handling the lighting project. I said before that this is one project that will face a lot of sabotage and fights,” Wike noted.
He recalled an incident earlier in the week when President Bola Tinubu returned from Lagos and parts of the airport road were in darkness. “I called the Executive Secretary of FCDA to ask who was handling that section, and he said CCECC. I told them I had already warned that there would be sabotage. But as long as we are alive, we will fight back and overcome,” he said.
Wike urged contractors not to be discouraged by acts of vandalism and resistance, stressing the administration’s commitment to completing the lighting project.
“CGC, please don’t relent. There will be distractions, from moving poles to vandalism, but those are only attempts to weaken us. I assure you, my team and I are determined. If there’s one project we must deliver, it is the Light Up Abuja project,” the minister declared.
The minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s resolve to continue its aggressive infrastructure drive across the territory as Abuja prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026.
