Wike inspects ongoing interchange bridges, arterial road N16 Works Linking Maitama, Gishiri, Jahi and Gwarinpa

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, today conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing construction of the Interchange Bridges and road network connecting Maitama, Gishiri and Jahi to Gwarinpa.

The inspection is part of the FCT Administration’s renewed commitment to accelerating infrastructure delivery across the nation’s capital.

The project, officially titled “Full Scope Development of Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) from Ring Road II to Ring Road III with Two Interchange Bridges at N16/RRII and N16/RRIII intersections,” is expected to significantly ease traffic flow and open new transport corridors within the Abuja metropolis.

A substantial portion of the road — from Ring Road I (RRI) to Arterial Road N20 (Solomon Lar Way) within Katampe District — was previously completed and commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of activities marking the second anniversary of his administration.

Another segment, from N20 to RRII, is currently under development under the Jahi District Infrastructure Project. However, the remaining stretch — from Ring Road III (RRIII) to Arterial Road N40, which will connect directly to the road leading to the Renewed Hope Estate in Karsana District — is the focus of the ongoing construction inspected by the Minister.

According to officials, this yet-to-be-developed section of Arterial Road N16 plays a strategic role as it traverses the expansive Gwarimpa Housing Estate. Once completed, it is expected to provide improved and more direct access to Gwarimpa residents, particularly those living within Bunkoro and Wupa Districts.

The project also holds broader urban development significance: the road segment will enhance connectivity to Sector Center E, a key commercial and social hub consisting of four districts — Gwarimpa II (C03), Kafe (C05), Wupa (C15) and Bunkoro (C18) — all within Phase III of the Federal Capital City.

Minister Wike reiterated the FCTA’s commitment to completing major infrastructure projects that decongest traffic, boost economic activity, and improve the living standards of Abuja residents. He emphasized that the administration will continue pushing for rapid but quality-driven construction timelines across all districts.

With the construction of the interchange bridges and roadway progressing steadily, the Arterial Road N16 corridor is set to become one of Abuja’s most important high-capacity mobility routes upon completion.
