Wike commended for delivering 600-bed hostels at Nigerian Law School, Bwari

The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, has commended the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for fulfilling his promise to support legal education with the construction of two new hostels at the institution’s Bwari campus.

Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony for the construction of male and female students’ hostels on Monday, Prof. Chiroma expressed deep appreciation for the Minister’s intervention, describing the project as a milestone in the development of legal education in Nigeria.

The hostels, each designed to accommodate 300 students, mark a major infrastructural boost for the institution, which has long faced accommodation challenges due to increasing student enrolment.

“You may recall that on the 9th of December 2024, during the flag-off ceremony for staff quarters and vehicle donations, His Excellency promised to make budgetary provision for this project,” the DG stated. “Today, we are witnessing the fulfilment of that promise.”

Prof. Chiroma extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the project, and acknowledged the unwavering support of the Federal Ministry of Justice, led by the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, as well as the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba.

He praised Minister Wike’s long-standing contributions to legal education, citing previous infrastructure projects at the Law School’s Graham Douglas Campus in Port Harcourt and the Yenagoa Campus in Bayelsa State.

“To those of us familiar with your legacy, this is not new. You have always been a pillar of support to the justice sector. These projects are legacy footprints that will outlive us and continue to serve the legal community,” he said.

The DG concluded by thanking the Minister and the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory for their “huge and ongoing support,” and reassured stakeholders that the new hostels would significantly enhance the institution’s ability to deliver on its core mandate of training future legal professionals.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by dignitaries, legal practitioners, and stakeholders in the education and justice sectors.
