Wike Applauds Supreme Court Ruling, Urges Okpebholo to Focus on Development

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has extended his congratulations to Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State following the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming his election victory.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the ruling as a resounding validation of the mandate given to Okpebholo during the September 2024 governorship election.

Wike praised the verdict as a triumph for democracy and the people of Edo State, describing it as a fresh opportunity for the governor to deepen his commitment to public service.

“This is not just a personal win for Governor Okpebholo; it is a victory for the good people of Edo who made their voices heard at the ballot,” Wike said. “It should serve as a renewed call to deliver impactful governance.”

The former Rivers State governor further encouraged Okpebholo to stay focused on delivering inclusive development, emphasizing the need for visionary and people-oriented leadership.

In a gesture of reconciliation, Wike appealed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, to put aside political differences and support the governor in advancing the state’s progress.

“Now that the Supreme Court has made its final pronouncement, it is time for all stakeholders, including political rivals, to come together in the best interest of Edo State,” he urged.

The apex court’s decision on Thursday dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP and Ighodalo, cementing Okpebholo’s status as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.
