The authorities of Tai Solarin University of Education,TASUED,Ijebu-Ode,Ogun State have explained reason why it always issued two separate certificates to its graduates on completion of their courses.
The Vice-Chancellor,Prof  Oluyemisi Obilade made the explanation during a discussion on social media, penpushing, on need for revival of moribund Technical Colleges‎ across the country, saying the issuance of two certificates were borne out of the fact that, students of the institution are compel to choose a vocational course, aside from their degree courses.
‘ I have been following the thread of discussions on this platform and have learnt a lot here. I will like to contribute a little bit here since we are talking of the ‘realistic, measurable and achievable’ (words that resonate with those of us who are teachers ),she said.
Obilade further told participants on the platform that, what her administration was doing in the school was a strategic response to the needs and realities of the people, which she pointed out include established need for skilled artisans and reality of fixation on paper certificates.
‘What we have done in TASUED is a strategic response to the needs and realities of our people. First is the established need for skilled artisans and then the reality of our fixation on paper certificates’.
The first female Vice-Chancellor of the 12 year old university added further that, the management, then expanded programmes in the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Vocational Education within the contextual umbrella of Adult Education.
‘ We then expanded our programmes in our Centre for Entrepreneurship and Vocational Education (within the contextual umbrella of Adult Education) to partner with highly skilled master artisans and our own lecturers to introduce certificate and diploma programmes in some of the identified areas of need’.
‘Coincidentally, many are programmes we run normally with our first degree since all our students must graduate not only with a first degree but also with a chosen vocation”.
Obilade, who is the third Vice-Chancellor of the university founded in 2005, while speaking further, disclosed that has now made it possible for persons who may not be able to attend formal tertiary institutions after JSS or SSS to be able to get requisite training for artisan skills.
‘The difference is that we have now made it possible for persons who may not be able to attend formal tertiary institutions after JSS or SSS to be able to get requisite training for artisan skills. We are willing to partner with communities and schools with space and adequate enrolment
