Why Oyo Government Banned Activity of NUTRW- SA Media and Publicity

By ABIODUN JIMOH

The Oyo State government stance to ban the activity of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and its leadership has been attributed to have safe lives and property across the state.

It could be recalled that the leadership of the union in the past had always engaged in brutality war over control of the union as soon as the new government came onboard in the state, whereby lives and property were being destroyed during the fracas.

Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Oyo State Governor, Jide Ajani stated this in television program themed ‘Asset Declaration and Anti -Graft War’ monitored recently, where he analysed on the state governor, Seyi Makinde declaration of his asset at the Code of Conduct Bureau office in Ibadan.

The Special Adviser revealed that if not for the quick intervention of the state government to ban the leadership of the union, it could have resorted to breakdown of law and order in the state

He also admitted that based on the security reports, the best option opened to the state government was to send the right signal that vandalism, thuggery and  violence would not stand in this administration. This thus preserve lives and property.

“The leadership of the union thought because of the relationship they have, some leaders who are also close to some people in government wanted to take advantage over the party. People are beginning to sell the story that they have some people’s backing.

“The only way the government can stand its feet of authority on the ground was to show that it will not yield to it. If governor had allowed what was going on in the first place to continue, that would have resorted to total breakdown of law and order across the state,” he said.
